Theory, Practice and Policy: How can teacher research help bridge the divides

Sadly, there are commonly divides between the worlds of theory, practice and policy; in this paper I draw on 20 years experience in the Project for Enhancing Effective Learning (PEEL) and a range of other projects that have involved forms of teacher research to discuss how both the process and the products of teacher research can help bridge these divides. The paper looks at three areas where PEEL has resulted in significant change and/or generated important new understandings: student learning and change, teaching and teacher learning and issues associated with the kinds of knowledge that emerges from long term teacher research.
